Like snowstorms, avalanches, tarantulas and rattlesnakes, outlaws were once viewed as part of the natural environment. “Renegades, Cutthroats and Cannibals: Chico and Beyond” is about a unique set of survival skills which allowed pioneers to address those lawless elements which lay hidden, and waiting, in the California outback.

Starting with local Indian troubles, the presentation will advance to the subject of bandits, stage robbers and confidence men, The narrative will conclude with a look at one of California’s more complex vicissitudes: an encounter with a Cannibal!
