You may know Butte Creek Canyon as a local scenic destination, but In 1850, the world rushed into the canyon with dreams of riches. This event not only changed the landscape, but redefined the people who were left in its wake

Find out about the rough mining communities that sprang up overnight, where the people found gold, and how they went to extremes to follow a dream. We will uncover their early mining methods and contrast them to today's prospecting technology, tempered to protect a fragile environment.

Warning; exposure to this rich subject may result in a condition known as "Gold Fever". To alleviate symptoms for those afflicted, we will discuss where and how you can find gold on Butte Creek today.
