The Northern Maidu is an account of the Maidu Indians, as interpreted by the brilliant and enigmatic scholar Roland Dixon. It was the writings of Annie Bidwell which led to Dixon's interest in the Maidu and his decision to visit Chico to study it's little known native people. Although a classic of early twentieth century ethnography, today The Northern Maidu goes largely unnoticed by readers of local history. At the museum podium, armed with screen and pointer, Paul Bowman will weave the tale of a forgotten explorer and a vanished culture scape.
