Speaker Rod Thomson

Beginning in 1964, Chico State experienced twelve years of turmoil in which students and faculty vigorously protested what appeared to them the most significant problems facing contemporary American society.  In spite of its rural location, the relatively small size of its student population, and the long-entrenched conservatism of the local community, this once-sleepy campus experienced a period of unrest as tumultuous as any in America, albeit on a smaller scale, and without bloodshed.  Chico State History Department faculty member Rod Thompson will present his research on the fascinating period of local history which began with the college and town at odds, but ended with their coming together to address local issues of importance to everyone.
